XSS Forum Boss Arrested in Ukraine in Europol Sting

Law enforcement officials in France and Ukraine, with support from Europol, have arrested the alleged administrator of xss[.]is, a notorious Russian-speaking cybercrime platform. The suspect, detained in Kyiv on July 22, is believed to have operated the forum, which had over 50,000 users and facilitated illegal trade in stolen data and cybercrime services. Authorities described the operation as a major breakthrough, with the XSS Forum Boss arrested after years of investigation.

French police launched the probe in 2021 and coordinated closely with Ukrainian counterparts. In September 2024, investigators moved into the operational phase, deploying teams on the ground and establishing a virtual command post. Intercepted communications on the suspect’s private messaging platform, thesecure[.]biz, linked him to criminal schemes that generated at least €7 million. The XSS Forum Boss arrest also revealed key connections to ransomware operations.
