US, Europol Arrest 270 in Dark Web Drug Crackdown
Global law enforcement agencies arrested 288 individuals tied to illicit drug trafficking on the dark web as part of Operation RapTor, a coordinated effort led by U.S. and European Union authorities. The operation resulted in the seizure of more than $200 million in cash and virtual currencies, signaling a major disruption of online narcotics networks. Authorities also confiscated 144 kilograms of fentanyl or narcotics laced with fentanyl, a synthetic opioid driving overdose fatalities worldwide. In addition, 180 firearms were recovered during the raids, underscoring the operation’s focus on dismantling violent criminal infrastructure. The arrests spanned multiple jurisdictions, reflecting the transnational nature of dark web marketplaces. Officials said the action highlights growing cross-border cooperation aimed at combating cyber-enabled crime. Operation RapTor is among the largest of its kind targeting dark web drug vendors, emphasizing the increasing focus of law enforcement on digital platforms where illicit substances are bought and sold anonymously using cryptocurrencies.
