Société Générale Intern Aided SIM Swap Scam, 50 Hit

French authorities have arrested a business student interning at Société Générale for allegedly assisting cybercriminals in a SIM-swapping scheme that targeted 50 bank clients. The Société Générale intern aided scammers by providing confidential customer data, enabling the attackers to hijack victims’ mobile phone numbers and gain unauthorized access to their bank accounts.

The scam involved transferring victims’ phone numbers to SIM cards controlled by the criminals, allowing them to intercept security codes and bypass two-factor authentication. Investigators say the insider’s access to sensitive customer records played a central role in the operation. Authorities moved quickly after uncovering the internal breach, which led to the arrest of the intern suspected of facilitating the fraud.

The Société Générale intern aided a criminal network that exploited digital security lapses and insider cooperation to execute the attack. The case highlights the growing threat posed by internal actors in financial institutions.
