Qantas Says 5.7 Million Hit in Data Breach

Qantas says 5.7 million customers were affected by a recent data breach that exposed limited personal information but did not allow unauthorized access to frequent flyer accounts. In an updated advisory, the airline clarified that while frequent-flyer numbers were among the leaked data, the breach did not include passwords or other credentials necessary to access or misuse those accounts.

The airline categorized the exposed data and emphasized that no financial details or travel records were compromised. Qantas says 57 million data points were scanned during the investigation, but the information involved did not meet the threshold considered sensitive enough to trigger direct account access.

Qantas urged customers to remain alert but stopped short of recommending password changes, citing the limited scope of the breach. The company continues to work with cybersecurity experts as part of its response and investigation.
