Pudu Robots Hacked to Misdeliver Meals, Expose Data
Food delivery robots developed by Pudu Robotics, a leading commercial service robot manufacturer, were found vulnerable to unauthorized control, raising security concerns across sectors. A cybersecurity researcher discovered that due to missing permission checks in Pudu’s robot management APIs, anyone with minimal technical skills could exploit the system. In one scenario, the Pudu Robots hacked to misdeliver meals could reroute orders to unintended tables, disrupting restaurant operations.
The flaws allowed attackers to view robot histories, alter configurations, and control devices across global locations. With Pudu Robots hacked to misdeliver and more, attackers could hijack delivery flows in offices, hospitals, and hotels. Risks included unauthorized access to secure areas, rerouted medicine in hospitals, and even ransom demands displayed on robot screens.
After weeks of silence, Pudu responded only after its major clients were alerted. Within days, the company patched all reported vulnerabilities.
