Procolored Site Spread Malware-Loaded Software for Months
Procolored, a printer manufacturer, distributed malicious software through its official website for several months, exposing users to cybersecurity threats. Dozens of downloadable programs available on the site were found to contain information stealer malware and a backdoor, according to a report by *SecurityWeek*. The infected software potentially allowed attackers to harvest sensitive user data and gain unauthorized access to systems.
The breach highlights ongoing risks in software supply chains, particularly when users trust downloads from legitimate company websites. The malicious files were reportedly embedded in drivers and utility tools frequently accessed by customers seeking to operate or troubleshoot their Procolored devices.
While the scope of the compromise remains unclear, the presence of both data-stealing malware and a backdoor suggests a coordinated attempt to infiltrate affected systems. Procolored’s failure to prevent the distribution of tainted software raises concerns about its cybersecurity practices and the integrity of its digital infrastructure. The company has not issued a public statement.
