Microsoft Teams to Block Screenshots in Meetings

Microsoft is introducing a new privacy feature for its Teams platform that will block screen captures during meetings, aiming to safeguard sensitive information shared in virtual environments. The “Prevent Screen Capture” capability, slated for global release in July 2025, ensures that any unauthorized attempt to take screenshots results in a blacked-out meeting window, making captured images unusable.

The protection will be available across Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android platforms. Users joining from unsupported systems will be placed in audio-only mode to maintain security compliance.

Additionally, Microsoft plans to roll out enhanced audit logging tools in June 2025. These will give IT administrators access to detailed records of screen-sharing and control events, including timestamps and participant identities, through the Teams Admin Center.

The updates come amid growing enterprise demands for stricter data controls. While the new tools won’t prevent all forms of data leakage, they represent a significant step in mitigating digital exposure risks in collaborative settings.
