Microsoft Teams to Auto-Track Workers via Wi-Fi
Microsoft plans to roll out a new feature in its Teams platform this December that will allow the software to auto track user office locations via Wi-Fi. The update, listed in the company’s latest roadmap, aims to streamline workplace coordination by identifying whether employees are working on-site or remotely.
The feature will use a device’s Wi-Fi connection to determine physical location, adding a layer of automation to status updates within Teams. Microsoft Teams’ ability to auto track location could raise privacy questions among enterprise users, though the company has not yet disclosed additional security measures tied to the rollout.
In parallel, several vulnerabilities have been highlighted, including CVE-2025-55315, CVE-2025-11371, CVE-2025-54253, CVE-2025-27915 and CVE-2024-49138. These flaws may pose security risks to organizations using Microsoft’s collaboration tools, underscoring the need for timely patching and monitoring ahead of new feature deployments.
