Microsoft Edge Adds Bio Lock for Android Private Tabs
Microsoft has introduced a new privacy feature in its Edge browser for Android that allows users to lock InPrivate browsing tabs using a PIN or biometric authentication. The update, currently available in the Canary version, enhances session security by requiring user authentication when returning to private tabs after leaving the app.
The feature mirrors similar protections in Google Chrome, but users have noted a key difference: once enabled, Edge’s InPrivate tab lock cannot yet be disabled through settings. Microsoft acknowledged this limitation and recent updates in Edge version 129 include bug fixes and support for dynamic policy adjustments without restarting the browser.
While some users welcome the added protection, others have expressed frustration over the lack of flexibility. In extreme cases, users have uninstalled and reinstalled the app to reset the feature. Microsoft is expected to refine the functionality ahead of a broader release, as part of its ongoing push to strengthen mobile browser security and privacy.
