Lidl Notifies Online Shop Customers of Data Breach
Lidl notifies online shop customers in Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands about a data breach involving a third-party IT service provider. The breach, uncovered last week, involved unauthorized access to customer data, including names, phone numbers, and email addresses. Crucially, payment details and customer accounts remained secure, according to Lidl’s statements on their customer service websites in Belgium and the Netherlands.
The company reported the breach to the Dutch Data Protection Authority. They also stated that despite high IT security standards, cyber intruders briefly accessed a segregated file containing customer data. Customers should remain vigilant against phishing attempts, as the stolen data could facilitate impersonation.
Lidl emphasizes that at present, no misuse of data has been confirmed. Customers are advised to verify any unexpected communications purportedly from Lidl, and report suspicious activity to designated Lidl email addresses.
