Hackers Threaten Google, Demand Firing of Two Staff
A hacker collective has reportedly demanded that Google terminate two employees or face the release of confidential company data. In a message posted on Telegram, a group calling itself “Scattered LapSus Hunters” threatened to leak the tech giant’s databases unless the company fires Austin Larsen and Charles Carmakal, both with Google’s Threat Intelligence Group. Hackers threaten Google by also demanding an end to ongoing investigations into their network.
The group claims to include members from several notorious hacking outfits, such as Scattered Spider, LapSus, and ShinyHunters. While the hackers threaten Google with data exposure, they have yet to provide any proof of system access. Google has not confirmed any breach of its internal infrastructure. In August, the company disclosed that ShinyHunters had accessed data from Salesforce, a third-party vendor. Newsweek contacted Google for comment, but the company had not responded at the time of reporting.
