Google Play Apps Lure Crypto Users for Seed Phrases

More than 20 malicious applications found on the Google Play Store have been targeting cryptocurrency users by attempting to steal their seed phrases, according to cybersecurity researchers. These apps, disguised as legitimate crypto wallet tools, were designed to trick users into entering sensitive information that could grant attackers full access to their digital assets.

The malicious apps reportedly bypassed Google Play’s security checks by posing as utilities for managing or storing cryptocurrencies. Once installed, they prompted users to input their seed phrases under the guise of wallet recovery or authentication. The stolen data was then transmitted to threat actors who could drain users’ wallets.

Security analysts have warned that such tactics are becoming increasingly common as cybercriminals exploit the growing adoption of digital currencies. Users are advised to download apps only from verified developers and to avoid inputting sensitive information unless they are certain of an app’s legitimacy. Google has not publicly commented on the incident.
