Google Pixel 10 Adds C2PA to Fight Deepfake Images

Google Pixel 10 adds C2PA integration to its camera and Photos app, enabling users to verify whether images are AI-generated or altered. Announced at the Made by Google 2025 event, this move strengthens image authenticity by embedding Content Credentials into JPEG captures and edits. These credentials use secure digital signatures to provide verifiable proof of creation, rather than relying on oversimplified AI labels.

Google Pixel 10 adds C2PA features that meet the highest Assurance Level 2, using hardware-backed security from its Tensor G5 chip, Titan M2, and Android APIs. Content Credentials appear in the Photos app’s About panel, offering transparency into both AI and non-AI edits. The system preserves privacy by using anonymous attestation and one-time-use cryptographic keys, while offline functionality is ensured through trusted on-device time-stamping.

Google encourages wider adoption of this standard, emphasizing the need for industry collaboration to build trust in digital media.
