Google, Cloudflare Outages Hit Millions Worldwide

Google Cloud and Cloudflare suffered major outages on Wednesday, disrupting services for millions of users worldwide. Cloudflare’s failure began at 18:19 UTC, affecting its Zero Trust Access system and WARP connectivity. The disruption cascaded across key services including Workers KV, Browser Isolation, Durable Objects, Workers AI, and Cloudflare Stream. The root cause was traced to a third-party service dependency impacting the Workers KV system, leading to widespread failures in Turnstile, AI Gateway, and other services. Cloudflare began restoring functionality by 19:12 UTC and declared full recovery by 21:31 UTC.

Separately, Google experienced a service disruption starting at 17:58 UTC, impacting Gmail, Google Drive, Meet, and other Workspace apps. Engineers restored most services by 19:48 UTC, with AppSheet fully recovered by 23:00 PDT. Although the companies confirmed the incidents were unrelated, the timing raised questions about the resilience of cloud infrastructure. Both firms plan to release detailed post-incident reports following internal investigations.
