Fake Clinics Lure Victims in Healthcare Phishing Wave
Cybercriminals are targeting the healthcare sector with a new wave of phishing scams involving fake medical clinics, according to GBHackers News. The attacks have contributed to a sharp rise in data breaches across the industry, with 92% of healthcare organizations reporting incidents that compromised more than 276 million patient records. On average, 758,000 records are being exposed each day as a result of the ongoing threat.
These phishing campaigns leverage fraudulent healthcare websites that mimic legitimate clinics, tricking patients and staff into sharing sensitive information. The surge in attacks underscores the growing vulnerability of the healthcare sector, which manages large volumes of personal and medical data.
The widespread nature of the breaches highlights the urgent need for stronger cybersecurity defenses across healthcare systems. With threat actors increasingly exploiting trust in healthcare providers, experts warn that organizations must adopt more proactive strategies to detect and prevent phishing attempts that pose risks to patient privacy and safety.
