Europol’s Project Compass Nets 30 Arrests
Europol’s Project Compass has led to the arrest of 30 individuals, significantly disrupting The Com, a cybercrime network known for exploiting young people. This yearlong initiative, coordinated by Europol’s European Counter Terrorism Centre, involved 28 nations working together to address these threats. The Com, primarily comprised of 16 to 25-year-olds, operates across social media, messaging apps, gaming platforms, and streaming services.
Authorities identified 62 victims and safeguarded four children. The network has previously been linked to notable crimes, including attacks on IT systems of British retailers and data breaches affecting Pornhub users. Throughout Project Compass, investigators also identified 179 suspects and conducted nine awareness initiatives to bolster cross-border cooperation, enhancing response times and information sharing among the participating countries.
Anna Sjöberg of Europol emphasized the importance of early intervention and international collaboration to close gaps exploited by these networks. To explore the full story of Europol’s Project Compass and its impact, visit the full article at:
