Australia Builds AI to Decode Criminal Emoji Chats

Australian authorities have developed an artificial intelligence tool designed to decipher the hidden meanings behind emoji used by criminals online. As part of a joint effort within the Five Eyes intelligence alliance, the new system highlights how Australia builds AI to decode messages that exploit digital symbols to target children. The Australian Federal Police (AFP) announced the initiative during a recent public address.

The technology aims to assist law enforcement in interpreting emoji strings that conceal illicit communications, particularly those used by predators exploiting minors. Officers said this AI capability allows faster identification of threats across digital platforms, enhancing the ability to intervene earlier. Australia builds AI to decode these messages by analyzing patterns and flagging suspicious usage tied to criminal behavior.

The specialized team, created under the Five Eyes partnership, will focus on identifying and stopping offenders who use online platforms to harm children.
