Keio Hit by Ransomware, Tokyo Metro Emails Exposed
Keio Corporation, a prominent Japanese railway operator, was hit by ransomware, disrupting several business systems over the weekend. The company detected a system failure early Saturday and promptly confirmed the cyberattack, which forced a network shutdown to thwart additional damage. Keio, operating approximately 85 km of railway lines in western Tokyo, has launched an investigation to determine the full impact, including any potential data breaches. Despite the issues, train services remain unaffected. Meanwhile, Keio Plaza Hotel, part of the same group, experienced disruptions, but no data leak has been confirmed.
In a separate incident, Tokyo Metro revealed that an unauthorized entity accessed the email addresses of 59,000 Metpo loyalty program members. The company has secured the entry point and cautions customers against possible phishing scams. As investigations continue, no ransomware group has claimed the attacks.
